Recap
This week we explored true belief versus consumeristic faith through John 6. Jesus confronted crowds who followed Him for what He could provide rather than who He is. When His teaching became costly, many walked away. Peter's response reveals the heart of true belief: "Lord, to whom will we go? You have the words of eternal life." True belief clings to Jesus because there is no other place to go—it's surrender, not certainty.
Connect
- What's one thing you tend to consume without much thought (food, media, entertainment)? What drives that habit?
- If you could have one question answered with absolute certainty, what would it be?
Check-In
- Last week we concluded our Digital Fast series. How did you do with managing your attention and digital consumption? What did you learn about yourself?
Contemplate
Read John 6:25-35 and John 6:60-69 together as a group.
- What does Jesus say the crowds are really looking for when they pursue Him? (v. 26)
- What does Jesus mean when He calls Himself "the bread of life"? (v. 35)
- Why do you think many disciples walked away after Jesus' teaching? (v. 60-66)
- What is significant about Peter's response in verses 68-69?
Consider
- When have you been tempted to follow Jesus for what He provides rather than who He is? What did that look like?
- The sermon said: "You can pursue Jesus and still miss Him completely." Where in your life might proximity to Jesus or church not equal true belief?
- What's one area of your life where you're holding back from fully trusting Jesus? (Future, relationships, identity, finances, obedience, etc.)
- Jesus never forces belief, but He always calls for a decision. What decision is He calling you to make right now?
- How would your daily life look different if you truly believed that Jesus is enough—that He Himself is the gift, not just a means to something else?
